Campaign for Human Rights and Social Transformation (CAHURAST - Nepal) is a non-profit organization established in 2006 with the mission to protect rights and establish peace in Nepal.  It works towards creating a civilized, cultured and rightful society with full respect to human rights, dignity, justice and happiness of the Nepalese People and also focuses on Economic, Social and Cultural (ESC) rights. 

CAHURAST – Nepal is seeking a qualified and interested Nepali citizen for the following vacant position under EU funded “Enhancing Dignified Life of freed Haliyas through collective Advocacy and Human Rights Campaign for Democratic Political Participation in Nepal-ADHICAR” project implemented in Sudurpaschim Province. The EuropeanUnion (EU) has awarded a consortium of four organisations; Felm, The LutheranWorld Federation (LWF), Campaign for Human Rights and Social TransformationNepal (CAHURAST) & Rastriya Mukta Haliya Samaj Federation Nepal (RHMSF-N) to contribute on joint efforts to combat discrimination of various disadvantaged groups in Nepal; Freed Haliyas (ex-bonded labour), including persons with disabilities (PwDs) and women - in the context of shrinking space of the Nepalese civil society. The project aims to produce verified data about the economic, social and cultural rights (ESCR) situation of Freed Haliyas, women who are facing double burden of discrimination and people with disabilities and use this information to advocate for their rights and entitlements.

Functions and duties

Programme/project management (program and budgetary part)

  • Support the project coordinator in preparation, monitoring and coordination of projects in the areas of responsibility including the use of relevant IT tools.
  • Support to analyze and assess project results and contribute to overall data-gathering and assessment report.
  • To interact and coordinate with beneficiary institutions, relevant stakeholders in the areas of responsibility.
  • Coordinate closely with the community monitors and colleagues ofADHICAR implementing partners (esp. colleagues of RHMSFN and LWF Nepal) at Dhangadhi
  • Support the help desk members of project areas (Doti, Dadeldhura, Kanchanpur, Bajhang and Baitadi)
  • Support in ensuring timely submission of all reports
  • Support coordination and organization of meetings, training and workshops and prepare reports accordingly
  • Assist in logistic management of meetings, training and workshops
  • Organize refresher training as per requirement
  • Support in preparing agendas and arrange field visits, appointments and meetings (internal and external) related to the project activities and prepare reports/minutes of the meetings
  • Support collecting and maintaining all information of project activities
  • Set up and maintain project files and collect project related information, data from the field
  • Working closely with Project Coordinator and Implementing Partners

Selection Criteria

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Medically fit to perform the required duties;
  2. Has an excellent written and spoken Nepali and English
  3. University education with at least bachelor degree in Social Science, Developmental Studies or relevant discipline with 2 years of working experience in development sectors preferably in project management, advocacy and governance
  4. Experiences in working with the marginalized community and government  

Knowledge:

  1. Good understanding of project management and coordination issues
  2. Strong computer skills and knowledge of IT tools
  3. Good drafting skills and ability to summarize complex issues in a concise way

Functions and duties

1. Collect and handle the discrimination and violence cases of the community people focused on the freed Haliya, women with Haliya and PwDs.

2. Register and arrange the cases at help desk section systematically

3. Interact with victims to get detailed information and validate the information with evidences

4. In approval of victim whose case is registered, to receive the feedback from community representatives, conduct community meeting

5. After gathering evidences, help desk focal person will have to coordinate with the legal advisory group (The Group of 7 members including lawyer, journalist, representative of RMHSF-N, representative from DPOs, representative of CSOs working on women issues, etc)

6. Solve the minor cases by own ability 

7. Refer complex cases to concerned authorities for solving the problems and issues of the victims 

8. Close coordination with Community monitors and colleagues of partner organization

9. Develop good network with duty bearers and community people

 

Selection Criteria

Minimum Requirements:

1.     Has an excellent written and spoken Nepali and English

2.    5years of working experience in development sectors preferably in advocacy and governance and legal experience

3.    Experiences in working with the Haliya community and support in legal procedures

 

Knowledge:

1.     Good understanding of legal procedures to solve the community problems

2.     Good drafting skills and ability to summarize complex issues in a concise way

3.     Good reporting skill both in English and Nepali language
